Steady Ed Headrick , also known as "the father of disc golf," was the creator of modern flying discs and the founder of the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) . Headrick was an engineer and toy designer who worked at Wham-O , the company that popularized the Frisbee.

Headrick started playing disc golf in the 1960s and quickly fell in love with the sport. In 1975, he designed the first permanent disc golf course at Oak Grove Park in Pasadena, California. The course had 18 holes and was a great success among the players of the time.
The History of Disc Golf

After founding the PDGA in 1976, Headrick worked hard to promote the sport and help set standards of play. He created the Disc Golf Player Rating and designed the scoring system still used today.

In addition to his work on disc golf, Headrick was also instrumental in the development of Ultimate Frisbee and the discipline of freestyle.

Sadly, Headrick passed away in 2002, but his legacy lives on in disc golf and the players who enjoy this exciting sport around the world.
