Disc golf doesn't grow with words alone.
In Spain and Cyprus, the problem is often not a lack of interest. The problem is that it needs to be seen on the ground for a space, a property, or a manager to truly understand it.
That's why we want to invest in something very specific: mobile baskets, temporary events, and real-world tests that allow us to show how disc golf can work before a permanent installation.
What do we want to achieve?
Robert Abel didn't come to this project from the outside. He's spent years trying to create a real space for disc golf through a shop, community building, volunteering, course design, and local activation. His connection to Madrid and Cyprus isn't just theoretical: he lives and works in Madrid, has personal ties to Cyprus, and has dedicated time, energy, and tangible results to both places.
Throughout his career, he has helped develop courses, worked on volunteer-driven projects, and actively participated in the growth of disc golf in Madrid and Cyprus. The idea for this project didn't originate from theory. It stems from years of observing the same reality: when the baskets arrive on the course and people can try the sport, the conversations change. In 2025, Robert also competed representing Cyprus at the Disc Golf Pro Worlds in Finland, participated as a guest speaker on a PDGA panel about disc golf tourism, and was the Spanish champion in the 40+ age category.
Why mobile baskets?
A well-organized site visit can teach far more than a presentation or a paper proposal. It helps owners, managers, and partners see the actual use of the land, the player experience, and the potential of a future facility.
What helps to fund this project?
- 18 baskets for Spain
- 18 baskets for Cyprus
- Pop-up events and temporary tours
- Loan baskets for real-world testing
- Transportation, setup and activation of events

Why Madrid and Cyprus
Madrid and Cyprus share something important: they are places with real potential for growth, but where disc golf still needs visibility, trials and a physical presence to open doors.
In Madrid, land-use restrictions and the difficulty of establishing permanent facilities make pop-ups and real-world events a key tool. In Cyprus, the opportunity lies in showcasing the sport in tourist, rural, and unique settings where a well-planned temporary program can spark interest among landowners, managers, and government agencies.
Having a basketball hoop in each location allows for continuous work, creating events, teaching the sport in special spaces, and turning abstract ideas into real experiences.
How will they be used
The baskets aren't meant to sit idle in a warehouse. The idea is to have convenient support points in Spain and Cyprus so they can be moved as needed for each event, demonstration, or test.
This will allow for the creation of temporary courses, the organization of activations in spaces with potential, and the loan of equipment when necessary to demonstrate how disc golf can work before a permanent installation.
From temporary game to permanent disc golf
Sometimes, a future facility starts like this: with some mobile baskets, a good test, and a place that finally understands the potential of disc golf.
